Two Ways to Edit a PDF in Word
Option A: Use PDF.it (Recommended)
Better formatting preservation. Handles complex layouts, tables, and images more accurately than Word's built-in converter.
- 1. Convert PDF → Word at pdf.it.com/pdf-to-word
- 2. Edit the .docx in Microsoft Word or Google Docs
- 3. Save back to PDF at pdf.it.com/word-to-pdf
Option B: Open PDF Directly in Word 2013+
Convenient if you have Microsoft Word installed. Works well for simple text-based PDFs.
- 1. In Word: File → Open → select your PDF
- 2. Click OK on the conversion notice
- 3. Edit the document as normal
- 4. Save as PDF: File → Save As → PDF
Full Workflow: PDF → Edit → Back to PDF
Convert PDF to Word
Go to pdf.it.com/pdf-to-word. Upload your PDF and download the .docx file. This preserves your fonts, tables, and images better than Word's built-in import.
Edit in Word
Open the .docx in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice. Make your changes — update text, fix dates, change values, add or remove sections.
Save as PDF
When editing is done, convert back to PDF. In Microsoft Word: File → Save As → PDF. Or upload the .docx to pdf.it.com/word-to-pdf for a properly formatted PDF with correct compression.
When You Don't Need to Convert to Word
Converting to Word and back makes sense for substantial edits. For smaller changes, these tools are faster:
- →Hiding/removing sensitive text: Use PDF Redaction — blacks out specific words without converting the file
- →Adding a signature: Use eSign — place your signature directly on the PDF
- →Adding a watermark: Use Watermark PDF — overlays text or image without editing the document
